Description
This project in the historic center of Balerna in Ticino includes apartments and craft/workshop spaces. It is a reconstruction. The existing building was completely demolished, and the new one rebuilt within the limits of the old volume. The project presents a contemporary and original architecture that is inspired by the proportions of the village buildings but does not reproduce their style. Various lacquered metal elements are integrated on the facades. They are treated as metal inserts oriented to favor both certain angles of view and the privacy of the interior spaces. They also bring originality, liveliness and lightness to the facades, which facilitates integration at the scale of the traditional surrounding neighborhood.
The architectural design was extended to many details such as the external wall lamps that were designed and made specifically for this project.
